Blog Carnivals generate targeted traffic
Posted on June 16, 2008Filed Under Internet Marketing |

Blog Carnivals are one of the best methods of generating organic traffic to your blog and getting more targeted readers. This method isn’t just about getting more hits for your blog, it brings you dozens of interested readers who hit your pages because they find a link to your blog article and think it have something they really want, this what makes Blog Carnivals a real and true traffic generator.
What is a Blog Carnival?
There are many kinds of blogs which are talking about different things. Blog Carnivals typically collect togather links pointing to blog articles on a particular topic. You can think of it as a blog event or a blog post that is published to cover a certain topic by including well chosen links to other blog posts on that topic.
There is so much stuff in the blogosphere, finding a good stuff which you are interested in might be pretty hard. As a reader, following a blog carnival is a great way to learn what different blogs are saying about the topic, if you are blogging on that topic, the carnival will be a good chance to share your work with like-minded bloggers, increase traffic and get more readers for your blog.
How a Blog Carnival works?
The whole process can be managed through Blog Carnival
A blog carnival is started by an organizer who decides what a carnival will be about and who will host each edition of the carnival. The organizer usually receives more volunteers to host the carnival editions on their blogs as the carnival gets more popular.
While an organizer can host the carnival that he started, however, being rotated across different hosts, the carnival gives more sense of a broader community.
The host works with the organizer to pick a date for hosting a carnival. In the period leading up their scheduled date the host collects submissions from bloggers who have an article on the carnival’s topic then organizes a single article full of links to the submitted articles. On the scheduled date the article is published for all bloggers and other plain-interested readers.
This an example for a blog carnival edition about football and soccer, click to see how it looks like.
Blog Carnivals bring success to your blog
Participating in blog carnivals can boost your blog traffic considerably according to the quality and popularity of the carnival. It’s more likely to increase your blog traffic and bring you a good number of new regular readers as well as other bloggers who will put you on their blogrolls or add you to their RSS Feeds.
Also, getting backlinks to your posts will be of a great importance to make your pages rank high in search engines.
Get started
You can start by visiting Blog Carnival and browsing available carnivals that are matching with your blog niche. Check for the ones that have a “Next Edition”, submit your best quality article. and see how great it works.
If you liked the idea and thought of starting a blog carnival of your own, it will be a great chance to host your first edition, communicate with other bloggers, receive their articles, and see how they think and write about the topic. Many volunteers will be interested to host your subsequent editions when it gets more popular.
I’m so much interested in blog carnivals, let me know about yours if you started any!

Dr. Casons last blog post..Guacamole
Hi Dr.Cason,
You should give it a try. Wish you the best of luck with it.
Thanks for the link! Blog Carnivals are a neat idea, but I find many wither and die due to lack of participation. I know the soccer one did (I was just a contributor, not the Ring Master of that particular carnival) It takes a fair amount of work. But if you can find a good group of contributors, then it should work well.
Soccer Dads last blog post..Comical Youth Soccer
Hi Soccer Dad,
That’s right. A good number of contributers is a must for a carnival success, keeping in mind the quality of the contributed materials, that’s why I think it needs some effort to organize and manage it through all the way.
You are welcome, wish you the best of luck!

Hi Ellen,
Actually, I feel it works great. As I mentioned, the best thing in blog carnivals is being targeted.
Wish you the best of luck with it!
Hi AxeCity: Every week I have a “share the love” blog post where I link back to posts on other blogs I enjoyed during the week. Does that count as a carnival? I’m going to go visit the link you provide above and see if I can join some blog carnivals. Thank you
Marelisas last blog post..The Elasticity of Time (Part 2)
Hi Marelisa,
Sure, this sounds like a blog carnival except for one thing, the links you provide should be sharing a common subject so that it can target and attract interested readers, this is one of the most important and effective features about blog carnivals.
So, you can gather links to articles on a particular subject and get started, let me know how it went with you!
Best of luck
