Rafael Nadal, Wimbledon 2008 Champion
Posted on July 7, 2008Filed Under News |
In a great final that lasted nearly five hours and finished in near darkness, Rafael Nadal, the spanish talented tennis player succeeded to add the Wimbledon title to his other successful records and titles by defeating Roger Federer, the five times Wimbledon Champion from Switzerland.
It was a great game, though interrupted twice by the rain, everyone was enjoying the big event, the players performace was so fantastic and their shots were spectacular.
From Roland Garros to Wimbledon, Well done Rafa!
It’s obvious that it was a hard loss for Roger who was trying to claim six consecutive Wimbledon Championships by getting this one, but Rafa’s a deserving champion and he just played fantastically, that’s what Roger said after the game, I think most of those who watched the game has felt the same.
This is Rafa’s second Grand Slam during 2008 after winning Roland Garros (the French Open) and dominating his opponant Roger Federer who lost to Nadal on a clay court, it’s no surprise that Rafa is widely recognised as the “King of clay”, he must be now aspiring to become the king of grass after winning the Wimbledon 2008 Champion!
What Nadal says about the event
It was amazing to know that Rafa’s motivation was up in the clouds - and not the opposite - after losing two sets to Federer in the game, Nadal said that he had never wavered in his quest for victory even though the five times winner Federer came back from two sets down.
Nadal’s words were so emotional and actually reflected the same feelings of all who were following this great event.
“It was the most emotional match”
“Winning here will stay with me for the rest of my life”
“When I won my first at Roland Garros I also cried”
Asked if the victory was more special because of the quality of Sunday’s match, Nadal said: “For sure, to beat Roger here after his five years.”
“I lost the last two finals, close finals. But he’s still the number one. He’s still the best. He’s still five times champion here.”
“Right now I have one, so for me it’s a very, very important day.”
Congratulations Nadal!
That was an incredible high quality tennis game, I really enjoyed both players performance and spectacular shots. I think this great and enjoyable event will be remembered by everyone who watched it.
Congratulations Nadal!

Yesterday while moving along on the elliptical and keeping my promise to myself- I will take care of myself- I watched the interview with Rafa- sans sound. It was long and he seemed so genuine. I looked harder and tried to read his lips and just gave up thinking he looked so happy and at peace.
It’s nice to hear that he said what I thought he was saying.

Hi Dr.Cason,
That’s the thing I really liked about his words too, being too genuine and natural, and above all, the game was pretty nice!
It was the best match I’ve ever seen. Both wanted to win so bad. I was rooting for Roger, but I tip my hat to Nadal. His attitude and poise is one that many other athletes can aspire to emulate.

Hi Karl,
Everyone who saw the match has felt the real meaning of competition. As you said, both wanted to win so bad!
Wish we can see a game like that in the future.
