Adding titles and slogans to images

1- Open your image file, the image being used here is Vase 1, credited to Michelle Dennis, you can download the image for free at http://www.sxc.hu/photo/933571

2- Create a rectangular selection using the Rectangular Marquee Tool and fill your selection with the color #b72c01 as follows.

3-Apply Drop Shadow Effect on your rectangular shape layer by clicking the Add a layer style button at the bottom of the layers palette or by going to Layer > Layer Style > Blending Options, use the following setting.

4- Our image will look like this.

3- Using #faf4b1 as the foreground color, add your title text as shown below, the font being used is DilleniaUPC, look how your title is aligned within the rectangular shape, this gives a space for us to add our slogan in the next step.

4- Remember you can always adjust your text width and height using the horizontal and vertical scale settings in Character and Paragraph palettes by simple clicking Window > Character, or by clicking the Toggle the character and paragraph palette in the options bar.

5- Now we add our slogan using the same font, adjust the font size to be as small compared to your title, that’s the result we finally get.

Did you have any criteria in mind when you chose a colour for the rectangle?
Yes, I had two choices when I was thinking about the color of the rectangle, either to choose it according to the red flower or the yellow flower, I made it finally according to the red flower to be in harmony with.
However, If you made it with yellow-related colors, it will look great as well, what I liked in this color is the contrast it makes with the yellow flower beneath.
It’s a cool method to make your photo album images look pretty and more attractive.
This design technique can be used for designing flyers, brochures, ad posters …

Good stuff. I’m still learning Photoshop. I use it mainly to download pictures to my blog. I’ll have to come back when I have more time and check this out. I’m in the middle of cataloging photos!
